History

The Living Wage Policy Study traces its origins to a 2015 undergraduate research project by Elizabeth Sohmer (SJU ’16) under the supervision of Dr. Ken Weidner, Assistant Professor of Management at Saint Joseph’s University. The original study explored the prevalence of living wage policies in American colleges and universities  The preliminary results were presented at the 2016 Conference of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). Dr. Weidner continued this research, presenting preliminary results at the 2017 AASHE Conference, and conducting an AASHE webinar on the subject in February 2018. In late 2017, justwage.org was opened to (1) facilitate collection of data from Chief Human Resource Officers, (2) make results available to participating CHROs, and (3) distribute the results of the research beyond academia.
